Adoptables at Danville SPCA

As of Thursday night, the Danville SPCA had no empty pens for dogs. Ben, a 1-year-old neutered housebroken St. Bernard-Golden Retriever, is still there and in need desperately of a home. He was teased by little kids when he was a puppy in a pen and he doesn’t like little kids. He has been at the shelter the longest of the adoptable dogs. Other dogs include
  • Bruno, 2, neutered and housebroken who looks like a larger Jack Russell or Fox Terrier;
  • a housebroken female Shebu Inu;
  • Colby a 6-month-old yellow Labrador Retriever;
  • a smaller brown and white neutered male Dalmatian that was abandoned;
  • a male black Labrador puppy;
  • two Beagles,
  • a friendly female Beagle mix;
  • a male Boxer;
  • Bailey a spayed female Rottweiler-German Shepherd;
  • Merlin a neutered housebroken Scottish Terrier;
  • a female Akita;
  • and a female Shih Tzu.

Cats include

  • a nice tiger and white declawed male,
  • a rare orange female tabby named Punkin,
  • a tiger female
  • a black female
  • kittens,
  • two guinea pigs
  • two male rats in tan and black.

Cats and kittens 6 months and older are free to anyone over 60. The shelter, along Bloom Road and three miles from Danville, is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday. It can be reached at 275-0340.

Sears hosted fundraiser

It was a nice sunny day for hot dogs & test drives. Thanks to manager Jim for hosting the fundraiser in Sears parking lot.
Attendees had the chance to buy our magnets, hats, t-shirts, etc.
They also got to test drive the new Craftsman line of lawn tractors. That HydroStatic transmission is great. The high capacity, high-speed, foldable, storable transport trailer was pretty cool, too!
Thanks, Jim!

Hero the Dog

Members of the Central Columbia Middle School “J” team,from left, David Miller, Angela Celeste and Zach Daily, are pictured with Nelly Miller of the Animal Resource Centerand a hound mix Tuesday night. The dog was brought to the shelter when its owner was called to duty in Iraq. The three Central students dubbed the dog Hero, in a patriotic nod to the former owner.
